2009/2010 Airfreight Rates
IATA (the International Air Transport Association) has recently reported that many international airlines have posted multi-million Dollar losses in the last financial period. This situation forced many carriers to reduce the number of flight operations. The grounding of aircrafts has removed much of the over capacity in the market, the consequences of which were the high rates implemented in the Far East by airlines during the "Peak Season" in the 4th quarter of last year.
The New Year has seen these rates reduced from the high level during the pre-Christmas rush. Demand has now reduced and the current capacity levels are being maintained. It is likely that airfreight rates will reduce further, after the Chinese New Year next month.
