Carriers have announced that price increases on the North America to Europe trade will be implemented at the beginning of April of between $300 and $400 per 20ft/40ft . These increases come in as carriers capitalise on the tight capacity situation, which was caused due to a reduction in tonnage during 2009 due to lower volumes moving on this trade lane. Carriers are currently very cautious about putting capacity back into the market , but it is hoped that this will happen if volumes remain strong.
In some areas of the United States, equipment shortage is becoming an issue caused by fewer imports into the USA from the Far East.
