Shipping Lines did not implement the GRI they announced for June, and the increases expected on July 1st have been postponed, until at least the 15th of this month. Increases are expected to be somewhere in the region of US$200-$250 per teu, but will vary depending on the actual carrier.
As previously reported all shipping lines will continue as planned to introduce Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) and are also targeting the 15th July. The PSS is expected to be in the region of US$200-US$300 per teu, although anyone using Maersk Line will still be subject to US $750 per 20ft and US $1000 per 40ft.
Again as already reported, container shortages in China and space issues on certain routes are starting to happen. This has put the lines into a position of strength and certainly makes it a 'Sellers' market for the foreseeable future. This has been fuelled by an unexpected increase in exports from China over the last two months, and the effect of 'Slow Steaming' meaning more empty containers are in transit, rather than where they are needed.
